Elevators always essential for evacuating high-rise buildings
In 2011, the ‘Evacuating high-rise buildings by elevators and stairs’ report was published in the Netherlands. This was the result of extensive research into the circumstances and options surrounding the evacuation of high-rise buildings in the Netherlands where the use of elevators plays a major role. Liftinstituut was involved in the research. The report’s most important conclusion was that elevators are always essential in these situations.
High-rise buildings in the Netherlands involve heights of between 70 and 250 meters. As well as providing clarity about different evacuation methods, the aim of the research was to develop a model that enables the determination of an optimum evacuation strategy for high-rise buildings in different scenarios.
